Well here I go

Hi all

Well this is the first of what I hope to be many of my geocaching blogs I am going to piece together. I am fortunate to have a job which allows me to travel and go find these caches which I would not normally do.

A word of warning though… for those who read this and know what I do, please do not comment on it. If this happens then I will be required to delete this blog. This blog is for my geocaching adventures only and nothing else… now having said that, here is what I was up to…

I am in Honolulu Hawaii and had a few hours to go geocaching… plus I promised my kids I would launch the “Amazing TB Race 2014” in a port overseas… so I logged into geocaching.com and saw an area I had not visited… plus it had the added attraction of a travelbug hotel! Awesome…

The area cached was called Kapiolani Park in the shade of Diamond Head just outside of Waikiki… there were at least 10 caches within a 2 mile radius and I made it my goal to get them all.
One of the best things about geocaching is finding areas you normally wouldn’t go, and I did that today… It was a great 3 hours just by myself enjoying the outdoors.

I was pleased to be walking in a lot warmer and dryer environment than Victoria… and I couldn’t believe the caches hidden well in plain sight… wow… lots of small and nano’s (it is a pretty built up area), but there were two highlights which garnered favorite points as well as a comment in this blog.

The first one was called Waikiki Nanotorium and Aquarium (GC2JQYZ). This cache was placed on the site of the old War Memorial in Waikiki… this site is now in disrepair but there is a move afoot to restore it, which would be amazing… to see such a peaceful place to remember the fallen is breathtaking… I hope it gets restored! The only regret I have is that I forgot to take a picture, so a stock one will have to do.

The other one was known as the Tree of Souls (GC3GWNB) and is the Travelbug hotel I strove to find… this gnarly tree in the middle of a park was an amazing place to hide a cache. It took me 10 minutes to extract the cache but it was nice to see one of these just a quick away from downtown Waikiki… how the trees grow here with the intertwined roots is amazing… you are just left in awe of the majesty of how nature works.

I left the 5 racers from the Amazing Race as well as a sheep from Germany to start their travels. May mine win! (sorry dear and my kids... but all is fair in love, war, and TB Races!)

All and all, a great day to enjoy geocaching!
